Highly recommended lip balm by Dental/Medical Providers for cracked and severely chapped lips!
With winter and the cold weather upon us you may be experiencing scaly, peeling, cracked, bleeding lips, or your lips may be chapped from other issues. If this is happening to you, I recommend Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm’s lip balm . This is my “go to” product I recommend for these issues. It’s wonderful for reducing discomfort associated with chapped lips while also moisturizing them. As far as I know, it is the only lip balm on the market with a key unique ingredient…hydrocortisone.
Often in the winter months, I have patients sit in my dental chair and tell me it hurts them to smile, talk, or eat. Sometimes when I greet patients in the waiting room I notice their severely chapped lips. Unfortunately when these patients open their mouths wide their lips will crack and bleed. When lips are this bad it’s time Dr. Dan’s CortiBalm.
Founder dermatologist Dr. Dan Vider created this product for a patient who was suffering from extremely dry, cracked lips due to a medication they were taking. Dr. Dan’s CortiBalm is specially formulated for all types of chapped lips. If your lips are severely chapped due to weather, cosmetics, sunburn, medications, allergies, psoriasis, medical conditions, or even chemotherapy this product is for you. Additionally, if your lips are chapped, cracked, peeling, or bleeding the ingredients in ordinary lip balms maybe irritating them even more and preventing healing. This lip balm works to reduce the dryness and inflammation associated with these issues.
Dr. Dan Vider formulated a mixture of natural yellow beeswax, mineral oil, petroleum jelly, and hydrocortisone into this lip balm. The key ingredient, hydrocortisone, is a mild corticosteroid. Hydrocortisone is used to treat a variety of skin conditions from insect bites too eczema. It’s a pretty standard dose of an anti-inflammatory topical steroid cream found at your local pharmacies. However, this does not mean go out and buy those creams instead. This lip balm works because it has hydrocortisone along with other key ingredients that when used together helps soothe and heal the most painful chapped/cracked lips.
The lip balm is hypoallergenic and free of fragrance, gluten, coconut, nickel, top common allergy causing preservatives, lanolin, propylene glycol, topical antibiotic, parabens, and soy. Most importantly, at least to me… it’s NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS!!
This product also provides relief to my patients with cold sores. The wax in this lip balm holds the hydrocortisone to the skin allowing it to ease the pain of inflammation and in some cases shorten the blisters duration (I have had some patients say that it didn’t shorten the duration of their cold sores).
I don’t recommend using this lip balm on healthy lips or for long periods of time. It is meant to help heal cracked and/or chapped lips, but once healed you don’t need to continue using it daily. Occasionally for maintenance of your lips is best. Hydrocortisone should not be used on a long term regular basis as it is a low potency steroid. Once your lips are healthy, I prefer Vaseline or Aquaphor for nightly use and maintenance uses of Dr. Dan’s lip balm. However, some patients with medical conditions or going thru chemo may need to use this on a daily bases, consult with your physician if this is the case.
The bottom line is no matter the reason for the severely chapped/cracked lips you should give this product a try. You won’t be disappointed! I know the packaging is a bit cheesey but don’t judge a book by its cover. This product is very reasonablely priced for $6.50 a tube. You can check out their website: www.drdanslipbalm.com, find it in stores, or it can be found on Amazon.
I hope this helps and NO I am not sponsored by this company….it’s just a product I believe in!!!
