So let’s talk about SNOW teeth whitening. I first saw SNOW as an advertisement on my social media feed. It had thousands of reviews and of course “influencers/celebrities” raving about the results. When I looked up their website https://www.trysnow.com they use LED technology and claim their product doesn’t cause sensitivity. Being the curious dental hygienist I am, it intrigued me and I wanted to learn more about this company and this product. I’ll never turn down the opportunity to make my smile a little brighter and whiter. This meant I needed to first try it and see the outcome for myself.
In a previous office, along with my hygiene duties I ran the whitening program for the office. We primarily used a light based system. During the procedure some patients noted sharp stings/shocks during the process. I would inform them these sensations were normal and are signs of teeth’s sensitivity to the high percentage of hydrogen peroxide. The stings are tolerable however some patients can experience more powerful stings and I would have to finish the procedure early due to discomfort.
To be clear there is NO DAMAGE to the teeth or nerves (it is completely safe) but the stings/sensitivity can last for a few days. I also experienced this during my own in-office whitening treatment, BUT you know the old saying-NO PAIN, NO GAIN!
The majority of in-office dental whitening systems use traditional LED lights. The light activates a professional grade hydrogen peroxide gel applied to the teeth. Other options for dental offices make trays created from molds taken of your mouth to create a custom tray for your teeth. These trays can be used at home to whiten teeth with a professional level whitening gel.
So what about SNOW? I was very skeptical at first…let me be honest…I am skeptical most of the time when it comes to at home whitening products. I like to read journals, look at data, see studies from universities (cause the devil is in the details!), but that info is not publicly available with SNOW. I wanted to see if I would experience sensitivity given I have sensitive teeth. I hoped to find a product out there I could recommend to my patients that are in my same boat. Is there a product that can whiten teeth without the pain?
Spoiler alert – There is a product that whitens as promise and my experience with SNOW was great! This teeth whitening system made a skeptic into a believer! I used the “Original Kit” which is the light that has a cord and it hooks up to your phone.
I can not give any information or recommendations regarding the wireless kit. Until I try it, this article is only about my experience using THE ORIGINAL KIT.
I followed the recommended guidance of 30 minutes a day for 21 days! I know that the company says you can receive results in as little of 9 min a day, but IMO that is for people who have already whitened for the 21 days and need a touch up.
I started to see a brighter, whiter smile after just a couple of uses and I was pleasantly surprised. I started by using the maximum strength gold wand (the advanced whitening serum you apply to the teeth) for the first week. I then switched to the whitening silver wand for the 2nd week. I alternated back to the maximum strength gold wand for the last week. These whitening wands all come in the original kit.
There is plenty of whitening gel in these wands so there is no need to buy extra wands. Make sure you don’t go crazy and apply half the wand per session. I had enough left over for my husband to use the kit for 21 days after I was done.
PRO TIP: Only whiten the teeth you see…don’t bother putting gel on your molars. People don’t see them when you smile, unless you have a smile like Julia Roberts (best smile ever!) This is a practice most dental office use. It also helps cut down on sensitivity issues with the molars and you save more gel! 🙂
SNOW recommends avoiding staining foods/drinks like tea, coffee, berries, and wine for 2 hours after whitening. This is good advice and the same thing I told patients right after their teeth whitening sessions in my office. If you’re a coffee or tea drinker and you absolutely can’t go without it, drink it through a straw. This is also why I choose to do my treatments at night before bed while watching tv. Although it’s tough guidelines to follow, you want to get your money’s worth and see results you should follow it!
IMPORTANT NOTE: WHITENING IS NEVER PERMANANT! The bleaching doesn’t last forever and how long it lasts varies from person to person depending on their individual oral habits. Some people will maintain their results for weeks/months while others maintain it for much longer. You will always need to touch up your smile again. This is true with all whitening products because we all eat and drink things that stain our teeth.
Some people’s teeth get whiter then others….(there are quite a few reasons why and I will explain it in another article.) SNOW is safe to use on: caps, veneers, crowns, and bridges. There are no whitening products on the market that will make unnatural tooth surfaces whiter than their original color!
Bottom line is this system really impressed me! Not only did my teeth look white, they never became sensitive either WHICH IS A FIRST!! I loved that I was able to whiten my teeth from the comfort of my home with just 30 min a day. The time saving aspect as a busy working women was a huge bonus! I was quite surprised with this product and I am so pleased with the results. I went up 3 shades, but my teeth were whitened previously at my dental office so I really didn’t have much room to go up.
I AM NOT SPONSORED OR PAID BY THIS COMPANY!! Although maybe I should be with how much I recommend it 😉 It’s just a product I personally used and recommend for my patients!! Hope this system works for you just as much as it did for me.
